Learning & communication
Music, writing, and what connects them.
I chose music, writing, and Communication Studies because I wanted to learn how to communicate well. They might look like separate interests, but I see a connection between them.
What drew me to music
Vocal music gave me a way to study expression. The words matter, but so do tone, timing, and how someone listens. That was one way for me to explore how a message reaches another person.
Why I focused on writing
My General Studies degree gave me room to focus on writing. I wanted to get better at explaining ideas and choosing words that someone else could understand.
That interest is part of my work today. When I write a faculty guide or document a registration process, I think about what the person reading it needs to know.
What I’m studying now
I’m now studying Communication Studies in WGU’s School of Business. I want to understand more about communication in organizations and how it affects the work people do together.
My role in higher education gives me opportunities to put that interest into practice. A guide, a form, or a planning workbook each has a purpose, and someone has to be able to use it.
I see my education as different ways of learning about communication. Music helped me explore expression, writing helped me explain ideas, and my current studies bring those interests into an organizational setting.
